Newbie Blogger Initiative 2014 Launches

It’s the first of May, and that means it’s finally time to kick off this year’s  Newbie Blogger Initiative (NBI). The NBI focuses on supporting new-ish or almost-blogging gamers through information, tips and community. The website defines it as:

The purpose of NBI is pretty basic. We’re here to:

  1. Promote aspiring game bloggers.
  2. Establish a friendly support network to nurture those bloggers.
  3. Create an on-going community for bloggers that’s available 24/7/365

The game blogging community plays a pretty huge role in the proliferation of games. We write about the games that inspire and thrill us all while giving fellow gamers a place to go to talk about those games, build guilds and generally create communities. Those bloggers benefit from a support network such as the NBI and that’s why it’s so important to grow our presence year after year. The NBI helps make the internet a less lonely place for upstarts.

This year, the NBI is kicking it up a notch, connecting via Steam, playing Hearthstone together, setting quest goals and providing phat loots to participants. And what gamer would turn down real life loot? 🙂

My History With NBI

I actually took part in the very first NBI, when it inspired me to launch my White Charr GW2 Tumblr blog. I can’t say for sure the overall feelings of NBI towards the Tumblr platform, but they allowed me to join, and it was a great experience. While I’ve somewhat fallen out of love with GW2 at the moment, that Tumblr now has well over 1,200 followers, and somehow continues to earn more, despite my lack of posting there.

I knew that when I launched this blog that I wanted to participate in NBI as a initiate this year. Despite the fact I’ve been blogging for years, the truth is, I still have many gaming bloggers to meet and socialize with. Maybe next year, I can consider being a supporter or veteran. But for now, I’m joining as a newbie, which is just fine. 🙂

To Those Shy or On The Fence

Don’t be! Even if you’re just considering launching your own blog, and would love pointers or direction, this community is ready to welcome you and lead you through the process. Feel free to join up and hit the forums. You can find me there as Aywren!
